My commitment
I want everyone to be able to use websitesbywatson.co.uk, from the homepage to the blog. This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at level AA.
What has been done
- One main heading per page, with headings in order, so screen readers can navigate the page.
- Text and interface colours meet the AA contrast standard, and colour is never the only way information is shown.
- Everything works with a keyboard, and the element you are on is always visibly outlined.
- Form fields have real labels. Errors are written in words next to the field and announced to assistive technology.
- Text can be enlarged to 200% without losing content, and the layout works on phones, tablets and desktops.
- Animation is limited to gentle fades, and stops if your device asks for reduced motion.
- Meaningful images have text descriptions. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- The site works without JavaScript: the form still sends, and the questions still open.
Known limitations
- The blog can include content pasted from other tools. I check it, but a heading or image description may occasionally be missed.
- The client spotlight shows screenshots of other websites. Their text is described in the image descriptions rather than being readable in full.
- The site has been checked with automated tools and by hand, but not yet by someone who relies on a screen reader day to day. If you find a problem, please tell me and I will fix it.
